Zozo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Accordia
Paul Casey doesn’t get a ton of fanfare, but he just goes about his business and racks up high finishes.
The Englishman was a winner this fall at the Porsche European Open (66-73-69-66) on the European Tour. It adds to his Valspar Championship win this spring on the PGA Tour.
The 42-year-old missed the cut a couple weeks ago at the Italian Open, putting an end to a streak of eight straight made cuts.
Of late, Casey finished T-11 against a strong field at the BMW PGA Championship and took third at the Tour Championship for one of his best runs through the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs..
He’s one of the best drivers in the field this week (62nd distance, 33rd accuracy) and should have plenty of options on approaches at Narashino.
He was ninth in strokes gained off the tee (.615) last season and eighth in approach (.706). Casey ranked fourth in GIR (70.96%) and converted a fair amount into birdies (3.87 per round).
Casey has won twice in Asia, both at Abu Dhabi on the European Tour in 2007 and 2009. He’s played in dozens of countries and knows what it takes to overcome jet lag to hoist a trophy by Sunday.
