Four top-10s in his last five starts. Just your typical string of golf by one of the Tour’s more consistent players over the last half decade.

Tony Finau comes to the Zozo Championship off of a couple of weeks of rest following a T-9 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He fired four rounds in the 60s in Vegas.

This fall, Finau spent a couple of weeks in the U.K. and finished T-10 against a strong field at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

It feels redundant to mention he’s going for his first win since the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. But he did come close in 2019 at the Charles Schwab Challenge (second) and the Open Championship (third).

The 30-year-old will hope for a wet course that’ll allow him to unsheath driver more often. His work off the tee (23rd strokes gained, .439) is his strength. His literal strength helped him to ninth in driving distance at 309.5.

Finau has a good short game for a power player and was 35th in total strokes gained (.768).

I think a David Duval-light stretch could be in store for Finau as soon as he gets over the hump for career win No. 2. Don’t be surprised if that begins at the Zozo Championship this week.
