I like to occasionally go with a wild card for my 10th slot. If you’ve been up to speed on the European Tour, you know that Bernd Wiesberger is deserving of the nod.

If this was a Ryder Cup year, the Austrian would be on the European squad. Wiesberger is a three-time winner in 2019 with all three coming since late May. That ups his career win total to six in Europe.

The Race to Dubai leader won the Made in Denmark and followed it up with a pair of Rolex Series wins at the Scottish Open and Italian Open. Wiesberger also finished solo fifth at the European Open and was T-17 against an elite field at the BMW PGA Championship.

He ranks 18th in Europe in greens in regulation (72.78%). His short game has been sharp as of late, and he led the Italian Open field in putting average and scrambling.

The next step is to show what he can do against top Americans. He made the cut in both majors he played in in 2019 but with little to show for it.

Wiesberger played the WGC-HSBC Champions each year from 2015-17. Sheshan’s been a good fit for him with a T-17 in 2016, T-35 in 2016 and T-9 in 2017. In that span, only one round (73) was over par and 10 were under par.
