WGC-HSBC Champions: Top 10 power rankings at Sheshan
The 2018 WGC-HSBC Champions winner looks to become the tournament’s first back-to-back winner. Xander Schauffele (66-71-69-66) surged on Sunday and defeated Tony Finau in a playoff. Those two beat the rest of the field by four shots in regulation.
The X Man already owns four PGA Tour victories. He had two last season including the Tournament of Champions. He’s in decent form over the last few months, too.
Schauffele finished solo second at the Tour Championship. He made the cut over on the European Tour at the European Open and finished T-10 in his 2019-2020 PGA Tour debut last week at the Zozo Championship (68-66-65-72).
There is no Shotlink stat tracking on the Asian swing, which brings down his 2018-19 season statistics. Still, he was 57th in strokes gained off the tee and has plenty of distance (304.9, 28th) to overpower Sheshan like he did last year.
He was 36th in approach proximity from 200-plus yards (33’3″) and fifth from 250-275 (51’11”).
This is the San Diego State University product’s third tournament appearance. He finished T-46 as a rookie in 2017. He just celebrated his 26th birthday on the 25th. Let’s see if he can get himself a nice little belated birthday gift.
