The Mayakoba Golf Classic is next up on the PGA Tour. Here are the staff picks to win this week in Mexico.

The PGA Tour didn’t have an event last week, as they took the week off. It might be a good thing they did, as there was plenty of excitement both on the Champion’s Tour and on the European Tour at the Turkish Airlines Open. Maybe that excitement can transfer over to this week’s event, the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

We have finally decided on a points system here to determine who is leading the staff picks. What better way to award points than just following the way the PGA Tour does it and award the corresponding FedEx Cup points to everyone.

Did you pick the winner? 500 points.

Your pick missed the cut? We throw a single point your way for taking part in that week’s event.

Right now, everyone is chasing our Fantasy golf guy Hans Geevers. He picked Hideki Matsuyama at the Zozo, and Rory at the WGC-HSBC, earning him a combined 800 points. West Valentine is right on his heels, as the rest of the crew looks to close in on them.

We pick back up as the PGA Tour starts back up in Mexico. Here are the staff picks for the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Abraham Ancer

Michael Randleman – Going with Ancer this week. Here is an excerpt from the weekly power rankings.

The dual-citizen of Mexico and Texas will get to tee it up in his home country in a tune-up for Royal Melbourne next month.

Ancer has played well south of the border. He’s made the cut each of the last three years at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. That includes a T-9 in 2017 (71-69-65-68) and T-21 in 2018 (65-68-67-71).

Ancer won the Australian Open by five the week after the 2018 Mayakoba in what was the career moment to date for the now 28-year-old.

Bill Felber – As previously noted, no player named Abraham has ever won a PGA Tour event. It’s time for that gap to be filled.

Viktor Hovland

Kathy Bissell

Chris O’Day – Hovland has got to break through at some point, right? Yes, he has been shooting in the 60’s in seemingly every tournament. The win is going to come for him at some point, so why not this week? I’ll go with Hovland.

Tony Finau

West Valentine – He has the game and I am hoping his selection to the President’s Cup team gives him the confidence he may lack. Tony has never looked like he has the killer instinct, but by Tiger putting him on the team, maybe he’ll feel the love, relax, and stripe it.

Richie Randolph – I am going with Tony Finau this week. The 16th ranked player in the world just received a captains’ pick from Tiger Woods for the Presidents’ Cup this winter. The only knock on Finau in his career is that he has not closed much; despite a plethora of top 10 finishes, he only has one victory. I see Finau breaking through in Mexico this week, where he is one of the best players in the field.

Russell Knox

Hans Geevers – He has an outstanding course form at this event. Additionally, he arrives at this event in decent form as well.

Rickie Fowler

Cameron Salce – After a top-five finish his last time out, I’m taking Rickie Fowler to win in Mexico for the Mayakoba.

Billy Horschel

Kasey Kuhrts – I am going to go with the newest member of the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame, Billy Horschel. Horschel has already collected two Top 25 finishes so far this season in only three events. His best is a tie for sixth at the Zozo Championship. I believe Billy has as good a chance as anyone to get a win this week!

Best of luck to everyone this week!
