Nedbank Golf Challenge Power Rankings
By Matt Coles
Our outside pick for this week’s event is the three-time winner of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, England’s Lee Westwood.
Although he sits outside the top 60 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and outside the top 40 on the Race to Dubai leaderboard, the former World No.1 is sure to be fighting for this title once more.
Westwood is one of four men to have claimed a hat-trick of titles at the Gary Player Country Club, alongside Ernie Els, Nick Price and David Frost, a trio of Africans. However, the Englishman is the only one to win whilst the Nedbank has been a European Tour event.
His 2018 victory was his only win in the last five years and the most recent of his 24 titles on the Tour. The 2019 cam pain has been somewhat of a struggle for the former World No.1, with just four top-ten finishes.
One of those did come last week at the Turkish Airlines Open, while he finished in a tie for 4th at the British Open Championship in July.
Although he might not be in the greatest of form, in what are the twilight years of his career, Lee Westwood does love playing in Sun City, and he has the opportunity to become the first four-time winner of the Nedbank Golf Challenge this week.
