RSM Classic Power Rankings: Ranking the top ten golfers at Sea Island
Billy Horschel’s quietly put together a solid fall. The former Florida Gator started over on the European Tour where he tied Patrick Reed for high American with a T-4 at the BMW PGA Championship.
He returned to the PGA Tour and had a tough week at the CJ Cup in South Korea (64th), but that was the only blemish. Horschel finished T-6 at the Zozo Championship in Japan, T-24 at the WGC-HSBC Champions and finished his international schedule with a T-8 last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.
Horschel’s recorded seven top-25s in his last nine starts going back to July. He hasn’t missed a cut in a non-major since April.
Horschel’s making his fourth RSM Classic appearance. He nearly won it in 2016, but hasn’t returned since.
Rounds of 66-66-65-68 (-17) were good enough to get him into a five-man playoff won by Mackenzie Hughes.
Although he’s a Gator on the wrong side of the border, he’ll still feel comfortable at Sea Island.
He’s made the cut all three times, including a T-20 in 2011.
"“This place is a special place. Obviously the courses are pretty amazing, but Todd Anderson being my instructor, being from here, being director of instructor at Sea Island for a long time, you want to play good because it looks good on you and it looks good on him,” Horschel said in 2016. “Obviously I live just right down the road in Jacksonville and I’ve been coming here since freshman year of college, so I’ve had chances to win here in the past, whether it be in college or the PGA Tour and I got it done once in college and would love to get it done another time here.”"
