Ireland’s Shane Lowry has had the best season of his career to date in 2019, by far, as he has a Rolex Series title to his name, along with a maiden major championship.

The Irishman lifted the Claret Jug after winning the 148th British Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July, to the delight of the partisan home crowd.

In the process, he became the first Irishman to win a major since Padraig Harrington over a decade earlier, and he also moved to the top of the Race to Dubai leaderboard.

Lowry now sits in 4th on that list, as well as inside the top 20 on the Official World Golf Rankings, with those positions also helped by a victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first Rolex Series event of the season, back in January.

The Irishman now has five European Tour victories to his name, and he will be looking to add to that this week in Dubai. Lowry also has a chance to lift the Race to Dubai title at the end of the week, but he will probably have to take the win at Jumeirah Golf Estates if he is to have any chance of taking the season’s prize.

The Irishman finished runner-up at the DP World Tour Championship in 2017 and he also has two more top-ten finishes, with a T8 result in 2011, and a 5th place finish in 2014. Could this be Lowry’s week in Dubai?
