RSM Classic: Sleeper Picks Who could make a run
Ben Crane (2011) +25000
Crane won the second edition of this tournament, winning in a playoff over current favorite Webb Simpson.
The winnings were a bit lower back then, as Crane took home $720,000 of the $4 million in purses. This year’s event will give $1.188 to the winner of the $6.6 million purses.
Crane put in work during the final round the year he won. He was chasing plenty of people, as he entered the fourth round outside of the top ten. His 63 was the best score of anyone who finished in the top 25, as his 63 was enough to take the win by one.
Ben Crane is a long shot, a true sleeper, for this year’s event. His win in 2011 was the only time he has found success at this tournament. In 2012 he finished T-27th, and his next best finish was a T-46th last year.
Not many golfers find success on the PGA Tour one they get into their mid 40’s. That’s right about where Crane is at, as he is now 43. You could argue that since Crane’s win in 2014 at the St. Jude Classic that he hasn’t been the same golfer. With only four top-ten finishes, the evidence is there. I like Crane to make one last push this season as the fall swing is nearly over.
Best of luck to everyone playing this week at the RSM Classic, and may all your sleeper picks rise to the top of the leaderboard come Sunday!
