Brendon Todd is riding the hottest streak of golf in his career, and he’s looking to match a feat that hasn’t been done since Tiger Woods – 13 years ago.

Brendon Todd is trying to do something this weekend that hasn’t been done in the professional lives of almost the entire field.

Winner of his two most recent Tour starts – the Bermuda Championship and the Mayakoba – Todd sits 10-under par and within four strokes of the lead at the RSM Classic in Sea Island, Ga.

No PGA Tour player has won in three successive weeks since 2006. The last to do it – you can probably guess – was Tiger Woods.

In August of 2006, Woods was not far off the peak of his tour dominance. He won eight of his 15 starts, two of them majors, and earned in excess of $9.94 million.

Woods started his streak Aug. 17-20 at the PGA Championship, held that year at Medinah. Coming two weeks after his victory at the Buick Open,it was vintage Woods. A third-round 65 allowed him to tie Luke Donald for the lead at 202 then Woods destroyed Donald in the final round, firing a 68 that was good for a five-stroke win over Shaun Micheel.

The following week at the WGC Bridgestone at Firestone in Akron, Stewart Cink took Woods to the wire and beyond. Cink’s third round 64 erased Woods’ six-stroke advantage at the start of the weekend, and gave Cink a one-stroke edge entering Sunday play. Woods led by three late in Sunday’s round, but Cink made up the difference with birdies on 16 and 17, setting up a playoff that took another four holes before Woods won it with a birdie.

Woods’ third straight came at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Sept. 1-4 at the TPC Boston. He trailed Vijay Singh by three strokes entering the final round, On Sunday, though, Woods laid down a 63 to take the tournament from Singh by two strokes.

On Nov. 3, Todd’s Sunday 62 made up three strokes on third round leader Harry Higgs and gave him a two-stroke win.

Last week at the Mayakoba, Todd clung to a one-stroke lead over Vaughn Taylor and Harris English after three rounds of the weather-delayed tournament, and held on to beat Taylor, Adam Long and Carlos Ortiz by one shot each.

Through two rounds at the RSM Classic, Todd is tied for seventh at -10, trailing Tyler Duncan, who is at -14.

Even if Todd manages to win his third straight event this weekend, he’ll fail to match Woods in one vital streak-related category. During Woods’ three victories, he pocketed $3.544 million in first place winnings.

Brendon Todd won $1.836 million in his most recent two victories, and the championship purse at Sea island is about $1.19 million. That will still leave Todd more than a half million short of what Woods won during his streak…and that’s not factoring 13 years worth of inflation into the equation.
