2009 Alfred Dunhill Championship winner Richard Sterne is sure to be among the higher echelons of the field in this year’s edition of the event.
His victory, a decade ago, saw him become the third South African to win the tournament on home soil, after Charl Schwartzel and Ernie Els.
Sterne took the victory by a single shot, with Johan Edfors and Robert Rock trying to chase him down on the final day, but a fourth consecutive sub-70 round was enough for the victory.
He then went on to take the spoils at the South African Open Championship a week later as well, followed by top 15 finishes at both the Joburg Open and the Africa Open in what was a marvelous period of golf on home soil.
The South African also came in as runner-up behind Brandon Stone three years ago, in an event, and a course, he clearly enjoys.
Sterne is also coming into the 2020 season on the back of some good form towards the end of the last campaign. He made it all the way through to the DP World Tour Championship, which only finished on Sunday, where he came home inside the top 20.
The South African also has top 25 finishes at the Andalucia Masters and the Porsche European Open during the second half of the 2019 campaign, and he will be aiming to continue that form into this event. Could Sterne become only the third multiple-winner of the Alfred Dunhill Championship?
