Golf Tips: A Bird Name for Every Score you could Imagine
This version of golf tips is a little different than most. This one is going to help you seem like a legit ornithologist.
You are looking around for golf tips and stumble upon this article. You think to yourself “hold on, I’m supposed to be getting some golf tips, and this guy is talking about ornithology… what’s going on?” Bear with me, it’ll all make sense.
I only bring that up because of the focus of today’s article. We all know the common terms for scoring. One under is a birdie. Two under is an eagle. One over is a bogey.
Some of us even know Albatross, which is three under, more commonly known as a double eagle. Which, by the way, makes no sense. How can three under be double what two under is? A double eagle should be four under… right?
Alas, I can’t change the terminology of the golf world.
What I can do, however, is help you all out by letting you know that there are, in fact, 20… yes, 20! different bird-related names assigned to golfing scores. Would you know if a player had a good hole or a bad hole if they told you that they had a scratch? What about a Goose or a Snipe?
Good thing I’m here today. Here’s how we are going to do it. I’m going to break it up into three sections. I’ll freely admit that before I saw this list, I had only heard of about five of these. We will go in order from best to worst and will start off today’s golf tips vernacular with the best possible golf score, and one that will likely never happen.
