The fifth and final South African on our Power Rankings leaderboard for the 2019 AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open is a former winner of the event George Coetzee.

He is the only previous champion of this tournament to be featuring at Heritage GC this week, having gotten the better of Thorbjorn Olesen in a playoff at this very course in the inaugural event back in 2015.

The South African also comes into this year’s edition of the tournament in good form, having finished inside the top three twice in his last six events, with one of those being a victory.

Coetzee ended the Amundi Open de France in 3rd place, before winning the Vodacom Origins Final, a Sunshine Tour event, two weeks later, ahead of the Rolex Series finale on the European Tour.

He came home inside the top 30 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, before then reaching the top 25 in the season-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship on home soil last week.

Coeztee is sure to be up there fighting for this title on Sunday, with his prior knowledge of how to win at this course coming in handy over the course of the tournament.

He is yet to finish outside the top 30 having come home in a tie for 27th in 2016, a year after his victory, before a T9 finish in 2017 and a T27 result last year. Could this be Coetzee’s week in Mauritius once again?
