Leading the way on the Pro Golf Now Power Rankings ahead of the AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open is a new name, and not one that will be familiar to most.

That man is Sweden’s Joel Sjoholm, who came ever so close to winning on the European Tour for the first time in his career last week at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

The Swede held the clubhouse lead at -7, until Pablo Larrazabal birdied the final hole in Malelane to take the victory by a single shot. However, Sjoholm comes to this event as the highest-ranked player on the new Race to Dubai standings following his runner-up finish, and that will give him confidence in Mauritius this week.

With the result, he made the move from World No.393 to World No.259, and he is ready to make the most of his first season on the European Tour since 2011, having finished inside the top 25 at the Qualifying School’s Final Stage last month.

He has not featured at this event before, but that could be a help for the Swede, who will be aiming to take home his first victory on the European Tour come Sunday afternoon.
