Day Two of the Hero World Challenge is in the books. Tiger Woods made a great jump and put together a strong second round.

Oh boy, am I excited. There is little else in the golf round that I like more than seeing Tiger Woods play well, and he definitely did that in the second round of the Hero World Challenge.

Tiger started off slow and was only -1 through 10 holes. It looked like he was going to stay in the middle/back of the pack this week.

Then. All of a sudden… TIGER CHARGE!

I don’t know if any of you remember the old PC Tiger Woods game, but the announcer would occasionally say Tiger Charge. That’s what happened in the back half of his round today.

It started on the 11th hole, as Tiger hit a wonderful approach shot on the par-five 11th hole.

Just beautiful.

He would knock in the eagle putt, and then trade off birdies and pars over the next five holes to get to -6 on the day. He would finish with two pars, turning in the best round of the day (at the time) of a 66. It is good enough to get Tiger to T-5th halfway through the tournament.

Another 66 was turned in a bit later, and this time it was from the man who has been playing some fantastic golf lately, albeit over on the European Tour, Jon Rahm.

Rahm, like Tiger Woods, shot a clean second round at the Hero World Challenge. He had four birdies and would eagle the par-five 15th. This was good enough to get him to -8 for the week, and he currently sits T-2nd, along with Henrik Stenson. Stenson shot -5 today, although he did have a bogey on the second hole.

There is one man that they are all chasing, and he is currently running away with the lead. He was also a co-leader heading into the second round. Nope, it’s not Gary Woodland. He struggled early, and was even on the day through 15 holes, with three birdies and three bogeys. He would finish birdie-birdie-birdie, finishing quite well, and is in 2nd all on his own at -9

Patrick Reed is the man atop the board. Reed cooled off just a bit at the end of his day. He was up to -12 through the 15th hole, and it looked like he was going to post back-to-back 66’s, finishing the day once again tied for the best round. He would bogey the 16th but birdied the 18th, same as Woodland did, and end up at -12 with a three-shot lead over his tee-time partner.

I do want to give a shout-out to Tony Finau, who came out and played hard when he easily could’ve given up. After a +7 to open the Hero World Challenge, Finau shot -4 today. He is still in last, but +3 for the tournament looks a lot better.

We are halfway through the event, and round three gets underway Friday morning. Even though the field is limited, there are still a fair amount of golfers who have a shot, I would say all the way down to the only man to shoot over par today, Chez Reavie, who is currently at -3 and T-9th with three other players. Xander Schauffele is at -1, ten shots back, and would need some astonishing events over the final two rounds to make a run at the Hero World Challenge.
