It’s the holiday season again and the most anticipated golf gift guide is here again. I present the 2019 Valentine Gold Heart Holiday Golf Gift Guide.

Looking back at last year’s golf gift guide, I still stand by those picks. They are as relevant this year as they were last season. But I have to take it to another level. I need to uncover some real gems that the big boys might have missed. So, in no particular order, here are my can’t golf gifts for 2019.

William Murray Tartan Blazer (and pants!)

There isn’t a dream foursome in the world that doesn’t include everyone’s favorite celebrity golfer, Bill Murray. Now, most of us will never get to tee it up with Bill, but at least now we can all dress like Bill.

For several years, William Murray Golf has created some great apparel that reflects the spirit of its namesake and some of his biggest roles. If you’ve seen Bill at the Pebble Beach Pro-am for the last few years, you’ve seen some of their whimsical and unique design. Turns out Bill doesn’t just own the company, he’s also a customer.

Murray fans will get a kick out of all his apparel and accessories, but one item hits the sweet spot for me – The Serious Business Tartan Blazer and Pants.

As you might expect, it’s less than serious, featuring an unstructured cut, stretch materials, and a tartan exclusively designed by William Murray Golf.

Buy the suit and really work it or just get the jacket and wear it to every summer club party you can afford.

Jones Golf Bags

Independent golf bag designers have been around for years. Most of the time, they were heavy on fashion and light on function. After all, who wants a buffalo-leather golf bag that weighs 40 pounds empty?

These days, you can find golf bags from dozens of outfits beyond the usual suspects. But none do it better than Jones. They have created a host of carry bags and stand bags that combine old-school looks with modern materials and functionality.

Toting a Jones bag to the first tee says, “I’ve got game … and if I suck, at least I’ve got good taste and style.” They also have a ton of well-designed accessories and apparel. You can’t make a bad choice.

Bluegrass Fairway

I pride myself on scouring the deepest reaches of the golfing internet to find truly unique items. This small brand out of – you guessed it, Kentucky – hand-makes some gorgeous scorecard holders and headcovers.

If you have a golfer that appreciates American craftsmanship, the look of leather or waxed canvas, and maybe is a bit of an outdoorsman, Bluegrass Fairway might be the perfect gift.

Each of their headcovers, pouches, scorecard holders and yardage books features hand-stitched details and exudes old-school charm. Every item looks like it was carefully crafted in a weathered barn by an artist who takes pride in their work.

They even mix in some tartan and natural blues and reds to add a little spice on several items. Best of all, their prices are very reasonable given other makers in this category. I love the brand. The products are stunning, and you can bet your friends will notice your style.

Muni Kids

Like many of you, I learned and played the game at muni courses. The muni lifestyle is still alive and well, but in the days before the democratization of golf, munis were like billiard halls and speak-easy bars. All kinds of interesting characters prowled about and it only mattered if you had game, not what kind of car you drove.

Muni Kids the brand is a decidedly West Coast brand out of Portland that combines the best aspects of pop art and muni golf. It may sound like a weird marriage, but it works. From Warhol inspired Arnie and Nicklaus items to funky headcovers to understated streetwear, Muni Kids is a tightly branded and professionally designed golf lifestyle brand.

If you have a laid back golfer who marches to the beat of their own drummer, Muni Kids has a gift that will fit their style.

State Apparel

Out of California, State Apparel is a high-end golf lifestyle brand that offers beautifully designed clothing and accessories. My personal favorite is their sailcloth headcovers. I’m not a sailor, but if I were, this would be a must-have gift.

They also make one of the most intriguing pair of golf pants I’ve ever seen. The Competition Pant is designed with a club cleaning surface on the ankle hem. Will sand and dirt fall into your shoe? Maybe, but I appreciate the design and engineering behind the product. It shows a brand that really loves golf and is thinking beyond the ordinary.

State Apparel is professionally designed from the logo down to the headcovers. It’s impressive and should serve as an example for every other aspiring golf lifestyle brand.

The Golfer’s Journal

I’ve admired this quarterly publication since it’s inception a couple of years ago. It is a gorgeous addition to any coffee table and the content is chock full of stuff you won’t find anywhere else in the golfing press. It’s the New Yorker of golfing magazines.

If you have an intellectual golfer on your list who loves long-form writing and sitting by a fire with a pipe, look no further for a golf gift for them than The Golfer’s Journal.

Volition by Puma

I love America. I also love to support causes that help those who served our great nation. Enter Volition by Puma. This clothing line supports Folds of Honor, an organization dedicated to serving the families of fallen military members.

Birdicorn

How about a fun stocking stuffer for a golf gift?

The modern golfer carries a steamer-trunk full of gadgets and gizmos in their bag. I’m always excited when a product comes out that can save space, weight, and perform multiple functions.

That’s a perfect description of Birdicorn.

Birdicorn is a divot repair and ball marker combo that also adds other valuable functions in a slick little package. Beyond the basics, Birdicorn can clean your groves, open your beer, be used as a stencil to mark your ball, and serve as a club rest on wet greens.

It’s like the James Bond of golf tools.

Choose your colors or even create your own custom coin and tool combo.

That concludes the 2019 Valentine Gold Heart Holiday Golf Gift Guide. If you have a golfer on your list, any of the above items will be a hit, I promise.
