United States Ryder Cup Team of the Decade for the 2010’s
By Matt Coles
Justin Thomas – 80% points won (1 appearance)
The only man to breach the 80% mark in the 2010s for the United States is Justin Thomas, who came to play at the 2018 Ryder Cup, scoring four points from his five matches in Paris.
The 25-year-old came into the tournament ranked as the World No.4, having lifted the PGA Championship trophy twelve months previous after winning at Quail Hollow, what was his first major title.
He formed a dominant partnership with another major winner, Jordan Spieth, in Paris. The pair won three of their four matches as a duo, starting with a 1up victory over Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton in the opening session of the weekend at Le Golf National.
They then tasted defeat at the hands of Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari (but so did everyone else), before then getting the better of Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm in the Saturday morning fourballs.
They showed their true class in the final session of pairs action, dominating against Poulter once more, who was partnered up with Rory McIlroy, winning 4&3 to give the United States a chance going into singles Sunday.
Thomas then won his singles match, the first on the board for the Americans, as he defeated Rory McIlroy, with the good friends facing off all the way down 18.
With four victories from his five matches on debut at the Ryder Cup, JT goes in as the best American player this decade, thanks to his 80% points ratio in the world’s biggest team event.
