Patrick Reed – 67% points won (3 appearances)

One of the biggest characters in the American golfing world is Patrick Reed, who burst onto the Ryder Cup scene in 2014 as he was one-half of one of the best partnerships the United States has had in recent times, and especially in this past decade.

Reed came into the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles as a boisterous 24-year-old, who still sat outside the top 25 in the World Rankings, but captain Tom Watson picked the young American, and it turned out to be a great call.

Reed instantly hit it off with a fellow rookie, Jordan Spieth, with the pair winning their first-ever match at the Ryder Cup 5&4, beating the infamous Ian Poulter and Scottish rookie Stephen Gallacher.

After missing out on Friday afternoon, the duo came back with a vengeance on Saturday, defeating Thomas Bjørn and Martin Kaymer 5&3. They then faced the German again in the afternoon, who alongside Justin Rose, was able to score half a point.

In the singles, Reed once again showed his abilities, defeating Swedish superstar Henrik Stenson on the final hole at Gleneagles, making himself one of the four Americans that tasted victory on Sunday.

2016 was a different story when it came to the overall score, but Reed and Spieth carried on where they left off, defeating Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose in the opening match of the event at Hazeltine on that Friday morning.

The pair lost to the same opponents in the afternoon, before then battling for a half with the Spanish team of Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera Bello. Reed and Spieth then defeated Stenson and Rose for a second time in as many days before Reed then won his singles match for a second straight edition, defeating Rory McIlroy in the first match out on Sunday in Minnesota.

2018 was more of a struggle for the now 28-year-old, who was coming into the Ryder Cup in France having lifted a first major title earlier that year, as he won the Masters at Augusta National.

He played alongside Tiger Woods in two of the four pairs sessions but lost out heavily to the dream team of Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari heavily on both occasions. Reed was able to keep his perfect singles record going on Sunday, though, as he beat Tyrrell Hatton, as he was, once again, one of only four men to put a red point on the board.

In his three appearances at the Ryder Cup, Patrick Reed has played in 12 matches, scoring eight points to give himself a 67% points ratio, and a place in the United States Team of the Decade.
