The Masters: Brooks Koepka

It was very hard not to take Tiger to win back-to-back green jackets again this season, but it is not the early 2000s anymore, and his magical 2019 victory is unlikely to repeat. It is almost 2020, and the best and most dominant golfer in the world in majors is Brooks Koepka.

He probably has a bad taste in his mouth after losing the FedEx Cup and PGA Tour player of the year award at the end of last season to Rory McIlroy. Giving Koepka any extra motivation to win is bad news for everyone in the field, especially in a major he came within a few strokes from winning last year.

It is hard to believe that Koepka was not one of the favorites to win the Masters last year after an injury layoff, but he should easily be the favorite to take home the green jacket this season. If it was not for his collapse on the 12th hole of last year’s masters, he would have taken home his first green jacket last season.

Brooks Koepka seems determined and destined to become the sixth golfer ever to win all four major championships, and this year it seems likely that he will at least add the third leg of his career grand slam. He has come close to winning both majors that he has not won yet, finishing tied for fourth in the Open, and finishing tied for second in the Masters last season.

It was tempting to predict Brooks Koepka as the winner for every major on the schedule for this season, and it is likely he could win two in the same year as he did in 2018. Vegas seems to agree as well, having him as the betting favorite in all four majors.

Yet, the Masters Championship and his first green jacket seem like the next and highest priority to check off his career to-do list. Every legendary golfer has dawned the green jacket at some point, so history points toward Koepka finding his way into that group. Why not this year?
