Sentry Tournament of Champions: Top 10 power rankings at Kapalua
Jon Rahm might be the hottest player in the world. He won the Open de Espana in October. The Spaniard took six weeks off before picking up where he left off at the DP World Tour Championship again on the European Tour.
He nearly won for the fourth time worldwide at the Hero World Challenge where he took second in early December. The 25-year-old amassed a whopping 17 top-10s worldwide.
Rahm was fifth on Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.692) and 10th tee to green (1.17).
Rahm is a guy who does well after time off, and I like him to be ready to roll at Kapalua. He has good results at the Tournament of Champions. He was solo second in 2018 (71-70-66-69) and T-8th (70-71-69-69). That’s 2-under or better in all eight rounds for a cumulative 29-under mark.
He is a birdie making machine (4.35/round, 6th) and was 23rd in par-5 scoring. I don’t always trust his putting (36th strokes gained, .336), but the field will be somewhat leveled out with the green renovations. If the surface stays slow as it historically has, that’s another plus.
Rahm will be a trendy pick come Masters time. Let’s get the buildup started here in Maui.
