10.  2010 U.S Open, 18th Hole, 2nd Shot

Tiger Woods had not enjoyed a great start to the 2010 U.S Open.

After failing to make a birdie through the entire first round, Woods was just clinging to contention as he reached the back-nine on Saturday. Sitting at +4 entering the inward stretch, Tiger started to produce some magic.

Reeling off four birdies in eight holes, Tiger was all of a sudden back into a share of fourth place and charging towards the top of the leaderboard. He marched to the 18th hole in search of a final birdie (or eagle) at the 543-Yard Par-5.

With his tee shot sitting behind the tree that splits the middle of the 18th fairway, laying up was not an option for Woods. He pulled out a fairway wood, hit a monster cut and found the green, which set up the closing birdie to finish in third place heading into Sunday’s final round.

What makes this shot incredible is the amount of trouble Tiger Woods had to navigate. First off, he started the shot out in the Pacific Ocean, meaning anything less than a major slice would end up either at the bottom of the ocean or in the lengthy bunker up the left-hand side of the 18th hole.

Secondly, the pin was tucked on the right portion of the green on that day. This meant that if Tiger cut it too far into the right rough, he would be short-sided and face a difficult up and down.

Despite all this trouble, Woods played the perfect shot and produced one of my favourite shots to watch on this list. The only reason this shot is not higher on the list is that it was on a Saturday and he did not end up winning this tournament.
