7. 2001 Players Championship, 17th Hole, “Better than most”

How could any golf fan forget this shot, or rather, the commentary that goes with the shot?

Warning of the real possibility of the putt travelling off the front of the island green, not one of the commentators or possibly anybody watching could have predicted what would happen next.

Facing a 60-foot, triple breaking, downhill putt towards the water, Tiger would have been doing well to two-putt and walk off with a solid par at the difficult 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

Of course, two putts was not good enough for Woods.

As the ball started tracking towards the hole, you can hear the murmurs from the crowd begin to lift as everyone started to realise that maybe the putt had a chance.

Then came the famous call, “that’s better than most…better than most!”

It was indeed better than most, dropping into the bottom of the cup and one of the best putts you will ever see. Tiger might be the only player that even had a chance of holing that putt and in Tiger fashion, of course, he did.

What makes this shot even better is that in the grand scheme of things, Woods went on to win the Players Championship by just a single stroke from Vijay Singh. So arguably had this putt not dropped, Tiger may not have been the one to lift the trophy at the end of the week.

But just sit back and enjoy the video, one of the greatest putts you will ever see accompanied by one of the greatest pieces of commentary you will ever hear.
