#2: 2018 PGA Championship

Well, there is no way to discuss golf in the 21st century and not discuss Tiger Woods. The Big Cat briefly held the lead at the 2018 British Open before rolling up like a boss to the final round of the PGA Championship at Bellerive.

Woods started the final round four shots behind leader Brooks Koepka, tied with five other golfers for 6th place. Playing with Gary Woodland, Tiger got off to a hot start, birding the 2nd and 3rd holes to electrify the St. Louis crowd.

After a couple of early bogies, Koepka steadied himself and reminded everyone why he won consecutive U.S. Opens. Birdies on the 7th, 8th and 9th vaulted him to fourteen-under, seemingly putting himself in the driver’s seat.

The back nine provided primetime viewing, with Koepka not giving an inch while the crowd went wild cheering for Woods to win his first major in ten years. Birdies on the 12th, 13th and 15th vaulted Tiger to one behind Brooks, but a bad drive on the Par-5 17th prevented Eldrick from making birdie.

The back-to-back U.S. Open Champion took advantage, showing no fear and utilizing his trademark mental confidence in majors to secure the title, birding 15 and 16 ended Woods’ chances.

Golf fans had long accepted the death of Tiger Woods in majors, and the 2018 PGA Championship featured a return of the GOAT vs. the best American golfer who took his mantle as a killer golfer in the majors. Over a year later the back nine at Bellerive is still fresh in everyone’s minds and showed that nothing compares to a final round showdown of Tiger vs. Brooks.
