European Tour: South African Open Power Rankings
By Matt Coles
The third of four home favourites on ProGolfNow’s Power Rankings ahead of the South African Open is Branden Grace, the former World No.10.
The South African struggled throughout the 2019 campaign, and saw his form drop, along with his ranking, and he now sits outside the top 125 in the Official World Golf Rankings at this time.
However, Grace’s quality is there for all to see, as he finished in a tie for 3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, the 2020 season opener for the European Tour.
With that result, Grace now sits inside the top ten in the Race to Dubai standings, and that is a position he will be looking to maintain throughout the campaign., especially having finished outside the top 100 in last year’s running, only just staying within the cut-off line to keep his Tour card.
The South African knows this event well, with it being on home soil. He also finished in 2nd place in the 2018 edition, finishing three shots behind the eventual winner, Chris Paisley, at Glendower GC.
After a tricky 2019 campaign, which saw the South African miss 11 cuts, he will be looking to get back to his best as the new decade starts. He will take heart from his T3 finish at the Alfred Dunhill, also held on home soil, and Grace will be looking to go even better at Randpark this week.
