Charles Howell III is showing no signs of slowing down at age 40. One of the PGA Tour’s most consistent players over the last two decades posted yet another quality finish last week.

Howell III fired 72-67-66-69 en route to T-12. It was his fifth top-25 in eight starts on the young 2019-2020 season.

Chucky Three Sticks had top-10s at the Safeway Open (T-4) and Zozo Championship (T-8).

Now, he’s back to another familiar venue at PGA West and La Quinta. This will be Howell III’s 15th start at the American Express.

A T-2 in 2013 is among seven top-30 finishes and 13 made cuts. His two MC’s came way back in 2003 and 2004.

The Augusta, Georgia native is comfortable on the West Coast.

I don’t tend to think of Howell III among the longer hitters, but he was 32nd last season in driving distance (302.8). That helped him to rank 49th in strokes gained off the tee (.262) to go with 16th in SG around the green (.328) and 43rd in SG putting (.291).

He was also seventh in greens in regulation (70.51%). He’ll have tons of birdie looks to help him contend for career win No. 4.
