The defending Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA winner, Shane Lowry, slots into No.2 on ProGolfNow’s Power Rankings for this week.

The Irishman took home the title by a single stroke last year, as his -18 was enough to take the victory, the first Rolex Series win of his career.

However, that would not be the end of his success in 2019, as he went on to win the 148th British Open at Royal Portrush, claiming his maiden major title, in front of an adoring home crowd.

Since then, his form has been slightly sporadic, with five top 15 finishes, but also three events where he has finished outside the top 50, including a missed cut at the Italian Open.

The Irishman now sits at World No.19, after Louis Oosthuizen moved above him after his performance at the weekend, but he has started 2020 well, with a runners-up finish at the Hong Kong Open, sanctioned by the Asian Tour.

Those top 15 finishes came at the BMW PGA Championship, Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the ZOZO Championship and the DP World Tour Championship, the season-ending event in Dubai.

80 miles down the road at Abu Dhabi GC, Lowry will attempt to defend the title he won so well twelve months previous. Will he be able to make it back-to-back wins in Abu Dhabi this week?
