The man that sits atop the Power Rankings ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA is Branden Grace, the South African who catapulted himself to the top of the Race to Dubai leaderboard on Sunday.

His final round of 62 at Randpark GC saw him win the South African Open hosted by the City of Johannesburg by three shots, claiming his first national championship, and the ninth European Tour title of his career.

The victory also saw him move back inside the top 75 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and to the top of the Race to Dubai standings, usurping former leader Pablo Larrazabal, who also features in Abu Dhabi this week.

He sits atop the RTD list because of a T3 finish at the season-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship, also played on home soil, which moved him 16 points clear of the Spaniard after Sunday’s victory.

Before the start of the season, Grace had been in a terrible run of form, dropping out of the top 40 in the OWGR, having only finish inside the top 25 on two occasions throughout the entirety of 2019, coming 2nd at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and T9 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

The South African missed 11 cuts in the calendar year but has bounced back magnificently at the start of the 2020 European Tour campaign, and he tops our Power Rankings because of his. Start to the season.
