Brooks Koepka has the perfect comeback to Bryson DeChambeau’s physique comments
Brooks Koepka had the perfect comeback when Bryson DeChambeau made a comment about his abs in the ESPN Body Issue.
Brooks Koepka has made a point over the past few years to be more open with his thoughts and opinions, and it’s made him one of the most popular golfers on the PGA TOUR. Well, that, along with his monstrous power and major-winning form, but more on that in a moment.
Bryson DeChambeau, also one of the TOUR’s most popular (and somewhat polarizing) players, has done a fine job of letting his personality shine, too. As the guy who broke into the top level of the game as the “mad scientist”, he’s also an avid gamer with a popular Twitch stream. There, he has a chance to speak directly to his fans about any subject they can come up with.
Which brings us to these past few days. DeChambeau said at the end of last season that he planned to come back with significantly more muscle this season, in an attempt to step up to the level of the likes of Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and the rest of golf’s big bombers. After all, length isn’t the only thing that matters in golf, but it’s a massive factor in today’s game.
And no doubt about it, DeChambeau has been looking extra thick in recent weeks, so clearly his dedication in the gym is paying off. However, when a Twitch viewer asked Bryson about how he felt he compared to Brooks, he took the opportunity to poke fun at one of Koepka’s more unique appearances.
"“I don’t think his genetics even make him look good,” DeChambeau said. “Did you see the Body Issue? He didn’t have any abs. I have abs.”"
Yikes. Brooks Koepka certainly took his fair share of heat for the way he prepped for the appearance in ESPN: The Magazine’s “artfully nude” layout, but nobody could say the guy didn’t look to be in top shape. Well, except for Brandel Chamblee, but even his concerns were put to rest quickly when BK continued to rack up majors.
I’m the last guy to critique this one. But sure, let’s go with it. Koepka might have been missing a few cuts here, but he certainly had one ready to go in response to Bryson’s thoughts.
Look, Bryson, we love you, but come on man. There’s just no coming back from that one. Take the L, dude.
This all looks friendly enough on the surface, and I’m sure both Brooks and Bryson are getting a good laugh about this one. But let’s not forget that Koepka is one of the loudest voices on TOUR about slow play. And, well, Bryson DeChambeau has basically been one of his biggest targets.
We all love a good feud in golf, but this one isn’t even close. Now, let’s just get these two paired together on TV, and keep the mics turned up.
