Rory McIlroy has played at least a partial PGA Tour schedule for over a decade. But in recent years, he’s further dedicated himself to playing stateside.

With that, there are certain events now on his schedule that he’s frequented only a time or two.

The Farmers Insurance Open is one of them. He looked like a La Jolla native debuting at Torrey Pines in 2019 when he fired 71-65-69-69 to post T-5.

McIlroy’s post-round comments during the tournament indicated he was a fan of the course.

As he should be. This is a bomber friendly layout that allows his tee to green game to shine.

McIlroy’s historic 2018-19 season featuring four wins and a FedEx Cup title also saw him finish atop the total strokes gained statistic (2.551). He’s got arguably the best driver swing in the game (1st SG off the tee, 1.195) and uses that length to bully par-5s (12th, 4.52).

He’s already a winner in the 2019-2020 season (WGC-HSBC Champions) and also finished T-3 at the ZoZo Championship. McIlroy’s last outing resulted in solo fourth at the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

There will be some rust to shake off, but there aren’t many guys who can win with their ‘B’ or ‘C’ game like Rory.
