No-one else was taking the No.1 spot on our Power Rankings for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic this week, other than the 46-year-old Lee Westwood, who took home the spoils last week.

The Englishman, a veteran of ten Ryder Cups, admitted that he did not practice much going into the first Rolex Series event of the season, but it did not seem to make much of a difference, as he won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA two shots to become the first man in the history of the Tour to win in four different decades.

With the win, he made his move back inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and he also now flies high at the top of the Race to Dubai standings, holding more than double the number of points of his nearest competitors.

The Omega Dubai Desert Classic is one of few (it feels like) events on the European Tour that the Englishman is yet to win, but if he plays as he did in Abu Dhabi, you can not put it past him to extend his lead at the top of the Race to Dubai leaderboard.

He has finished runner-up three times in the past, including in a playoff to his good friend Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2010. Westwood also came home in 2nd in 1999 and 2012, but could this finally be the 46-year-old’s week at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic?
