European Tour Power Rankings: Omega Dubai Desert Classic
By Matt Coles
The second Spaniard on our Power Rankings this week is the man with the most points in the history of the Ryder Cup, Sergio Garcia.
The 40-year-old took home the Omega Dubai Desert Classic title in 2017, winning by three shots from Henrik Stenson, who was looking for a second triumph at Emirates Golf Club.
Following his victory in the United Arab Emirates, Garcia went on to win the Masters in April, in what was a wonderful start to his 2017 campaign.
His good form in Dubai continued in 2019, as the Spaniard finished in a tie for 3rd, the last in a run of six straight top-ten finishes around the New Year, which included a victory at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters in September 2018.
Garcia also picked up a victory on the European Tour last year, winning at the KLM Open in the Netherlands in September, along with seven other top-ten finishes, starting with the WGC-Mexico Championship and the Honda Classic in the early part of the season.
He then had a T5 result at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and a T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship before finishing in solo 7th at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters on home soil.
Garcia also had top ten finishes at the Mutuactivos Open de Espana and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Could his good form in the desert continue this week?
