European Tour Power Rankings: Omega Dubai Desert Classic
By Matt Coles
England’s Tommy Fleetwood is in great form, having finished inside the top eight at five of his last nine tournaments, including taking a victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player in November.
He had a chance to take home the Race to Dubai prize at the end of the DP World Tour Championship, but finished runner-up to Jon Rahm, who eventually took the season-long spoils, with Fleetwood finishing in 2nd spot, so close to a second crown after his 2017 season win.
Last week, the Englishman was part of a trio that came home in a tie for 2nd before Lee Westwood, and with the points he earned from that result, he now sits in a tie for 3rd on the Race to Dubai leaderboard.
He also finished in T5 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and T8 at the Omega European Masters in that run of form, along with several other top-ten finishes throughout the 2019 campaign, on both the PGA and European Tours.
The Englishman has a T3 result at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, T5 at the PLAYERS Championship, T8 at the Betfred British Masters, 2nd at the British Open Championship at Royal Portrush and T4 at the WGC-FedEx St.Jude Invitational.
Fleetwood is currently England’s second highest-ranked golfer in the world, behind only Justin Rose, and he showed his prowess at the Ryder Cup in September in that epic partnership with Francesco Molinari.
After narrowly missing out on a third title in Abu Dhabi, could the man from Southport fight back to claim victory just two hours down the road in Dubai?
