While many of the world’s top golfers have competed in the UAE or southern California the last couple weeks, JT took some time off after a surprising missed cut at the Sony Open.

That’s about the only negative thing I’ve got to say about JT. I guess the other would be that he hasn’t won the Phoenix Open before, but I think he’ll check that box soon enough.

JT posted his best finish last year out of five career appearances at TPC Scottsdale, carding rounds of 64-66-68-72 to place solo third. Tournament champion Rickie Fowler opened the door wide open for JT, and t was a little odd to not see him take control in tough conditions in the wind and rain.

Thomas is beginning to get this place figured out. He finished T-17 in his 2015 debut before trunk slamming in 2016 and 2017. The Kentuckian rebounded for another T-17 in 2018 (68-68-71-66).

The 26-year-old is up to a whopping 12 PGA Tour wins after his latest came at the beginning of 2020 at the Tournament of Champions. He also won the CJ Cup in the fall and joins Brendon Todd as the Tour’s multi-winners thus far.

He’s got four top-fives in six starts this season to go with a T-17. The Sony was his first MC since the U.S. Open last June, and I could easily see another streak like that beginning.
