PEBBLE BEACH, CA – FEBRUARY 16: Dustin Johnson poses with the trophy on th e18th green at Pebble Beach Golf Links after cancellation of the final round of the the AT /

Dustin Johnson has fond memories of Pebble Beach, as long as it doesn’t involve the US Open. He won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am back to back in 2009 (65-69-67) and 2010 (64-68-64-74).

When not hoisting the trophy, he’s usually in the mix. DJ piled up a T-7 in 2008, T-5 in 2012, T-2 in 2014, T-4 in 2015, third in 2017 and T-2 in 2018.

Johnson was also the 54-hole leader at the 2010 US Open before his Sunday 82. He took T-35 at the 2019 US Open.

This will be the 35-year-old’s first start in the mainland US in 2020. He finished solo second and two shots back of Graeme McDowell in last week’s title defense at the Saudi International on the European Tour. He also played well last month at the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii with a T-7.

Johnson had a quiet 2018-19 Tour season by his lofty standards. Still, he finished above average in all strokes gained categories, including 11th total (1.321). He was fourth in SG off the tee (.703) but also had touch around the greens and in the sand (4th, 63.86%).

I have a feeling this is the week DJ reminds us he’s still got years in his prime left.
