Brooks Koepka missed the cut in his only Genesis Open start back in 2017. His career took off shortly thereafter, as the Florida State alum has since picked up four majors and two more PGA Tour titles.

That’s why I like him to be in better shape to stick around for the weekend in his return to Riviera.

Koepka’s always better with a chip on his shoulder. He may be motivated by Rory McIlroy overtaking the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings despite both players being inactive this past week.

The 29-year-old American was atop the OWGR since winning the PGA Championship in May.

He could reclaim the top spot this week. Jon Rahm could also become No. 1 for the first time.

As he is wont to do, BK has kept a light schedule as of late. He skipped the Presidents Cup in December due to a knee injury that sidelined him for three months.

Koepka returned to action for a pair of European Tour events, where he finished T-34 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and T-17 at the Saudi International. He took last week off in prep for his return to the States.

He ranked 11th last season in strokes gained approach (.636) and was 30th in proximity from the rough (40’).

I anticipate Koepka to be a little bit rusty. He hasn’t had a ton of success on the West Coast. But it’d be silly to omit him from my top 10 any week he’s playing.
