WGC-Mexico: Top 10 power rankings at Chapultepec
I’m willing to bet Tony Finau’s third time around Chapultepec will be his best. He hasn’t quite been able to bring his best stuff south of the border, picking up a T-27 in 2018 (68-70-68-74) and T-25 in 2019 (73-69-69-69).
A combined 8-under in eight rounds isn’t bad, he’s just got to eliminate the one big round he’s had each time.
Finau comes to Mexico City in good form. He made his fifth cut in a row and 11th in the last 12 starts last week with a T-51 at the Genesis Invitational. That was his worst result in his last six outings.
In that span, Finau came ever so close to winning at the Phoenix Open where he lost in a playoff to Webb Simpson. Finau also was T-6 at the Farmers Insurance Open and T-14 at the American Express.
The 30-year-old ranks in the top 50 on Tour of all strokes gained categories except for putting, where he’s still above average. His short game has been stellar this season, particularly for a bomber. Finau is seventh in SG around the green (.696), which gives me reason he can get around Chapultepec even without his best ball striking.
