Honda Classic: Top 10 power rankings at PGA National
The Honda Classic is a microcosm of Rickie Fowler’s career. High-quality consistency, but with few wins to show for it.
Fowler hasn’t missed this event since turning pro in 2010. He missed the cut in his first two visits to PGA National but has been spectacular since. He’s got five top-10s, including a win in 2017 and a T-2 last year.
"“Yeah, it’s definitely nice to be back here,” Fowler said in 2018 in a transcript from ASAP Sports. “This is a golf course I love to play, especially on days like this. It’s a tough golf course without wind, and when it picks up, it’s even more so. I feel like it’s a place that it demands your full attention at all times. There’s never really a pushover shot. Yet, like I said, demands your full attention.”"
In 2017, he fired 66-66-65-71 (-12) to win by four. That was the largest victory since Camilo Villegas’ five-shot romp in 2010.
Fowler (67-72-66-67) was just one shot back of 2019 champion Keith Mitchell.
The 31-year-old comes into the week well-rested. He’s been off three weeks since finishing T-37 at the Phoenix Open.
It’s been a relatively quiet 2020 with his top results being a T-5 at the Hero World Challenge and T-10 at The American Express. His stats rank him above average and in the positive in strokes gained. That said, he’s not higher than 47th in any category (.403, 47th in putting) nor lower than 108th (.048, 108th around the green).
