The 2019 Open Champion is making his first appearance in the US since the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August.

Lowry’s still yet to win since his major championship triumph at Royal Portrush. His performance dipped in the immediate post-win hangover, but he’s back to playing some good golf.

The Irishman came the closest at one of the Asian Tour’s top events, the Hong Kong Open, in January where he finished solo second and ahead of Tony Finau among others.

Lowry also picked up a T-11 and T-13 on the European Tour against high-quality fields featuring a smattering of PGA Tour stars in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

After an opening 72 last week at the WGC-Mexico, the 33-year-old bounced back for three rounds of par or better to finish T-29.

PGA National seems like a better fit for a grinder like Lowry than Club de Chapultepec was. He ranks 10th on the European Tour in sand saves (76.92%) and was 11th last year in greens in regulation (73.09%). He’s not a long hitter, which is fine at the Honda Classic.

I like for Lowry to build on a T-53 at this event in 2016 (67-75-69-75) and a T-49 in 2018 (71-74-75-67).
