The Kansan native Gary Woodland has set up residency in nearby Delray Beach, Florida, making him another guy who can sleep in his own bed.

Woodland is 7-for-7 in making the cut at PGA National and was near the top in 2017 when he finished T2 (71-66-66-69). He also picked up a T6 in 2011. His trip to last year’s Honda Classic netted a T-36 (72-70-66-73) and the second-lowest round of the tournament.

When Woodland played well in ‘17 he hit the ball beautifully. He hit 70.83 percent greens in regulation and 76.79 percent of fairways while averaging 305 yards off the tee.

Woodland, 35, is making his fifth start of 2020 and ninth of the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season. He also was at the Dunlop Phoenix in November, where he finished T-20.

The former Kansas University Jayhawk has had some nice finishes, including T-3 at the CJ Cup and solo fifth at the Zozo Championship last fall. In 2020, he’s got a T-7 at the Tournament of Champions and T-12 (70-69-65-71) last week at the WGC-Mexico.

Woodland struggled to hit fairways (48.21%) at the narrow Club de Chapultepec. With a little more room to breathe at Honda off the tee, I envision him having another strong week.

He ranks 21st on Tour in SG off the tee (.46), primarily for his length (313.2 yards, 18th). Taking advantage of the two par-5s is key at this event. Woodland ranks fifth in par-5 scoring (4.45) and is also under par on the par-4s (3.97, 41st).
