European Tour Power Rankings: Commercial Bank Qatar Masters
By Matt Coles
World No.70 Thomas Pieters is the second Belgian to make the cut for this week’s Power Rankings ahead of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, as he makes our list.
Pieters finished off the 2019 European Tour season strongly, as finished inside the top 30 at each of his last four events, with three of those being the final three Rolex Series tournaments of the campaign.
A T26 finish at the Amundi Open de France was followed up by a T17 finish at the Turkish Airlines Open, the first of the Rolex trio to end the year.
Pieters then earned a T30 result at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa before finishing inside the top six at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
This capped off a solid season for the Belgian, who had earlier taken his first European Tour win is nearly three years, as he lifted the D+D Real Czech Masters title in July.
The Belgian’s good form continues into the 2020 campaign, as he has now made the cut in 16 consecutive events, dating back to July last year. He finished in a tie for 13th at the AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open and capped his run off with a T3 result at the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers.
Pieters missed the cut at this event last year, so he will be expecting more from himself this week at Education City.
