The Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa, which was supposed to take place next week, has been postponed due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The disease, also known as COVID-19, has already been the cause of postponements to sporting events around the world, including two other events on the European Tour, with the Maybank Championship and the Volvo China Open both being removed from their scheduled slots in the calendar.

Due to the threat of the Coronavirus, the Kenya government has decided that all meetings, conferences, and events of an international nature over the next month will be postponed, with that decision then being reviewed after a month.

The Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa was scheduled to take place between March 12-15 at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi, with Guido Migliozzi having won the inaugural European Tour event last season.

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour said: “We understand and totally respect the decision made by the Government of Kenya in these difficult times.

"“We are looking into the possibility of rescheduling the tournament at some point later in the season, but that remains simply a possibility right now – we have no definitive plans at this stage.“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kenyan Government for their unwavering support, alongside Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago and Tournament Director Patrick Obath for their strenuous efforts and commitment. We look forward to returning to Kenya in due course.”"

With the postponement of the Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa, the next event on the European Tour following the conclusion of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will be the Hero Indian Open, which takes place between March 19-22 at DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi.
