Sungjae Im will look to extend his hot streak in the Sunshine State this week at the Players Championship.

The 21-year-old South Korean closed brilliantly to win the Honda Classic two weeks ago with rounds of 72-66-70-66. At yet another tough venue at Bay Hill, he came up two shots shy of winner Tyrrell Hatton with rounds of 70-69-74-73.

The consistency that netted him bushels of top-10s and top-25s in his Rookie of the Year campaign in 2018-19 is now turning into consistent chances to win.

He’s as close to a golfing machine on Tour. He’s teeing it up for the fifth week in a row and ninth time in 2020.

Im’s youth has kept him from fatiguing. He has just one missed cut this year and had only seven in 35 starts worldwide in 2019.

Along with his play in Florida, Im finished T-10 at the American Express, stuck close to champion Tiger Woods at the Zozo Championship en route to a T-3 and was solo second at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He has nine top-25s in 2019-2020.

Im played fine in his Players Championship debut in 2019 (73-71), but even par missed the cut by one. This is a course where getting rounds under your belt is valuable. While he only had two, that will be enough to give him a better game plan this time.

Im is 12th on Tour in total strokes gained (1.463) and is top-40 in SG off the tee, SG putting and SG tee to green. He’s only 132nd in SG around the green, but he’s an excellent bunker player at 15th in sand saves (61.29%).

The former Korn Ferry Tour money leader is also currently 11th in par-4 scoring (3.95).
