Adam Scott battled back last Friday to come just one shot shy (77-72) of making the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

I’m sure he won’t mind the extra couple of days to prepare for the Players Championship. The biggest win of his successful career until he won the 2013 Masters came here at TPC Sawgrass in 2004.

As a 24-year-old, Scott fired 65-72-69-70 to hold off Padraig Harrington by a shot. He was the youngest Players Champion until Si-woo Kim won in 2017 at age 21.

Scott has come close to winning for the second time here. He defended his title with a T-8 in 2005 (69-68-73-73), finished T-6 in 2007 (74-71-70-67), T-12 in 2016 (73-65-75-68), T-6 in 2017 (70-72-71-70), T-11 in 2018 (69-68-72-68) and T-12 last year (70-69-68-70). Overall, the Aussie has made 14 of 17 cuts at the Players with nine top-20s.

"“Obviously I love coming here to TPC,” Scott said in 2017 in a transcript from ASAP Sports. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments of the year and something I look forward to every year, so I have great memories here over the years. Not just for winning, but I’ve been playing late on the weekends quite a few times, and the atmosphere and the way this golf course lends itself to excitement out there is very fun to be a part of.”"

Now in his late 30s, Scott had a resurgent season in 2018-19 where he piled up big checks. He didn’t win, but it got him on the right track to come out on top this year against an elite field at the Genesis Invitational.

That was one of just three starts in 2020, all of which have come in the last four weeks. Scott also won in his last start of 2019 at the Australian PGA Championship.

He ranks 26th on Tour in strokes gained tee to green (.895). Scott’s also 17th in sand saves (61.11%) and has been dialed in with his wedges at 11th in proximity from 50-125 yards (15’9”).
