1973 – Tommy Aaron

Playing in a field that included past champions like Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, it was Tommy Aaron who outlasted the field to claim the green jacket in a big upset. Aaron had a share of the lead after the first two rounds, but slipped back on Saturday after shooting a 2-over par 74.

But Aaron rallied on Sunday to shoot a 4-under par 68 to claim his only major championship. In fact, it was Aaron’s third, and final, win on tour. The fact that a player with only three tour wins could win at Augusta was a major upset.
