1946 – Herman Keiser
Herman Keiser led wire-to-wire in the 1946 Masters, surviving a weekend rally by the game’s top player at the time, Ben Hogan. Keiser was tied for the lead after an opening-round 69, then opened a five-shot lead after shooting 68 on Sunday.
Keiser shot 71 on Sunday to lead Hogan by five shots with 18 holes to play. Hogan shot a 70 in Sunday’s final round, while Keiser’s 74 was enough for him to hold on and win what would be the only major of his career.
