2016 – Danny Willett

In 2016, Jordan Spieth was the hottest player on the PGA Tour. Spieth was also the defending Masters champion and the favorite to pull off a repeat at Augusta National.

As the week progressed, that appeared to be exactly what was happening. Spieth held the lead after the first, second and third rounds and was primed to wear the green jacket again. But, leading by five shots heading to the back nine on Sunday, Spieth fell apart, opening the door for a number of players.

The one who was able to take advantage of Spieth’s misfortune was Englishman Danny Willett, who fired a 5-under par 67 on Sunday to win his first, and to this point his only, major championship.
