No. 8 – Dustin Johnson Wins WGC-Mexico by Five Shots

Dustin Johnson has won only one major in his career despite several close calls in golf’s biggest events. And while DJ has not had much of the ultimate success in those events, he has been outstanding in the World Golf Championship events.

In fact, Johnson has won five times in World Golf Championship events. While that number pales in comparison to Tiger Woods, who has won 18 WGC events, winning five times against the world’s best competition is still a very impressive feat.

Out of Johnson’s five WGC wins, one stands out above the rest. That came at the 2019 World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship when Johnson came out of the gates hot, shooting a 64 in the opening round. And he didn’t let up from there.

Johnson shot a 67 in the second round, followed by a pair of 66s on the weekend. That was good enough for a 21-under par final score. That was good enough to beat a field of the world’s best players by a whopping five shots. Included in that field was Johnson’s partner in Sunday’s event, Rory McIlroy, who was the runner up, a distant five shots behind. To beat such an impressive field by five shots was an outstanding feat.
