No. 7 – Fowler Wins Players Championship
Rickie Fowler joined the PGA Tour in 2010 and while he had registered some impressive showings during his career, he had only one win through his first five years on tour.
That win came at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2012 when Fowler beat Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points in a playoff to claim his first tour title.
Fast forward to May of 2015, where Fowler still had just the one tour win. Many were questioning whether Fowler had the game to win on tour and, frankly, whether he cared enough to do so.
In May of 2015, as he had done at the Ryder Cup five years prior, Fowler answered his critics. Playing at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, Fowler rallied on the inward nine on Sunday with an impressive comeback.
Fowler trailed Sergio Garcia by five shots with nine holes to play. But that’s when Fowler heated up. He eagled 16, birdied 17 and birdied 18 to play the final six holes in 5-under par. His round of 67 was good enough to get him into a playoff with Garcia and Kevin Kisner. On the fourth hole of the playoff, Fowler birdied to claim the biggest win of his career to this point.
