Fantasy Golf: FanDuel Single Round Lone Tree Classic Picks
By Hans Geevers
This Monday, the fantasy golf community will be presented with the first round of the Lone Tree Classic! Let’s take a look at Monday’s first round from a fantasy perspective.
Before I dive into my fantasy golf player selections for Monday’s first round let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play.
The 2020 Lone Tree Classic will be played at the Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona. This golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,007 yards. This track presents the field with four par threes, 11 par fours, and three par five holes. Based on scorecard information illustrated on the Outlaw Tour site, the average length of the par five holes will be 567 yards.
*As of this writing the current weather forecast for Chandler, Arizona indicates a high temperature of 106 degrees on Monday. The current forecast for the first round further indicates minimal wind throughout the day and that no rain is expected.
Let’s shift our focus to what I love doing the most! Here are my FanDuel/fantasy golf player selections for the first round of the Lone Tree Classic!
Tyler Weworski $11,800
Weworski arrives at this week’s event on the heels of three consecutive top 16 finishes, including a fourth place result at last week’s Southern Dunes Classic. It should also be noted that Weworski ranked third in par or better percentage in last week’s 73 man field. In my opinion, that is a vital statistic when playing single round fantasy golf. Why? Well, the scoring system for the FanDuel single round contests highly emphasize a golfer’s ability to score. Clearly, Weworski has shown recently that he can do just that.
Alistair Docherty $11,400
Docherty has played seven tournaments on the Outlaw and Golden State Tours combined this season. In those seven events played, he has six top 18 finishes, including a 13th place finish at the GCU Championship in April. Additionally, Docherty currently ranks 14th in overall scoring average (66.88) on the Outlaw Tour.
Neil Johnson $10,800
Johnson has three consecutive top 16 finishes on the Outlaw Tour, including an eighth place finish at the Southern Dunes Classic last week.
Barry Enright $9,800
The 34 year old American made his professional golf debut earlier this month on the Outlaw Tour. How did he do? Well, Enright did exceptionally well. To be more specific, Enright won the TPC Champions Classic! It should be noted that Enright was a MLB pitcher (Arizona Diamondbacks, L.A. Angels) for four seasons. My point regarding his professional baseball experience is that Outlaw Tour golf is not too big a stage for him. If Enright can handle pitching in the majors I think it is fair to say he handle the pressures of minor league golf. It doesn’t hurt that he is obviously a very good golfer. I think he can perform at a high level again in this event. This week’s limited 45 man field is far less talented than the field he competed against to win the TPC Champions Classic earlier this month.
Zachery Gaugert $7,700
Yes, I know that Gaugert missed the cut in last week’s tournament. However, if you look closer to last week’s event scores you will see that Gaugert missed the cut on the number. It is not like the man played awful. He has shown an ability to play well on the Outlaw Tour this season. Gaugert finished 11th at the Legacy Classic in April.
As always, good luck with your fantasy golf lineups!
