DJ comes to Colonial for the first time since 2014.

The Charles Schwab Challenge isn’t a traditonal stop for Dustin Johnson.

The 12-year PGA Tour veteran teed it up at Hogan’s Alley in 2008 where he finished T-74 (73-69-72) and in 2014 where he improved to T-14 (65-70-74-66).

It’s hard to blame him for steering away from Colonial, a short, narrow track that plays away from the big bruiser’s strengths.

With that said, there’s no reason why he can’t hit lots of greens from wherever his tee balls wind up. DJ has had some decent finishes at the RBC Heritage, which is a good comparison for Colonial.

He’s 24th on Tour in proximity from the rough (39’7″). His strength and ath

Johnson has had a solid 2019-2020 season, but it’s below his lofty standards.

He hasn’t won since March 2019. The 35-year-old did come close to winning overseas at the Saudi International in February on the European Tour where he was solo second among some big names.

Johnson also posted top-10s against strong fields in the US at the Tournament of Champions (T-7) and Genesis Invitational (T-10).

DJ has won in Texas before. He won the WGC-Match Play in 2017 in Austin.

He’s been sloppy around the greens this year. If he’s his usual self tee to green, that might not matter much en route to contention. If he’s scrambling all round, he could find himself trunk slamming on Friday.

He’s got as much talent as any in the field, but there are better fits on the upcoming schedule for him than this one.
